Monday 13th November 2017
On Sunday 12th November our Parish observed Remembrance Sunday at its 9am and 11am Masses. Also on that day, Bryan Ruane (on behalf of our Parish) laid a reef at Billericay's war memorial during the town's annual ceremony.
Fr Dan (from the newsletter that Sunday) said the following:
This Sunday we will remember our dead at the 9am and the 11am Masses, not with any sense of triumphalism or jingoism but with a profound sense of gratitude and with a determination to do all that we can to prevent our generation from having to suffer the horrors of warfare in the way previous generations did. We will also remember more recent casualties from the wars that took place after 1945 and to pray for those areas of our world which are still scarred by conflict.
This Remembrance Sunday affords us an opportunity to take a few moments to pause as we acknowledge those who have died. In the words of the poet Lawrence Binyon: "Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them."
